UNICEF is a global leader in advocating for child rights. Guided by the Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC), UNICEF works in 190 countries and territories, saving children’s lives, defending their rights, and helping them to fulfil their potential.

UNICEF has worked in Timor-Leste since 1992, using evidence and innovation to support the acceleration of the realization of the rights of all children to survival, development, protection and participation, in partnership with the government and other stakeholders. UNICEF plays an active role in supporting the development of national policies and legislation, improving delivery of essential social services, strengthening child protection systems and increasing the participation and voice of children in defining and determining their country’s future. 

The Timor-Leste Country Programme for 2015 -2019 will focus on the following areas:
 
1. Child Health,  Nutrition and Water, Sanitation and Hygiene
2. Quality Education
3. Child Protection and Participation
4. Social Inclusion
