“Since wars begin in the minds of men and women, it is in the minds of men and women that the defenses of peace must be constructed.” In this spirit, UNESCO seeks to build peace through international cooperation in the fields of Education, Natural sciences, Social and human sciences, Culture, and Communication and information. UNESCO has been supporting Timorese people through activities such as; enhancing math and science education; assisting the conservation of natural environment; accelerating science and technology; building capacity of disaster risk reduction; building a culture of peace among youth through sports; documenting and preserving cultural heritages; and strengthening the self-regulatory mechanisms of media in Timor-Leste.
