The UN supports Timor-Leste’s goal to become a healthy, well-educated, prosperous, equitable and strong nation by 2030.
The UN is focused on improving the ability of Timor-Leste’s own people to make decisions and undertake projects. It builds partnerships with other civil society organisations and non-government organisations, as well as drawing funding from other countries, to help create and implement these projects.
The UN partnership in Timor-Leste today is outlined in the United Nations Development Assistance Framework 2015-2020 (UNDAF) for Timor-Leste. The UNDAF is the result of joint effort by the Government and the UN. Full details are yhere: http://www.tl.undp.org/content/dam/timorleste/docs/UNDAF-Revised%2031Jul_signed.pdf
The UN focuses on ‘’sustainable development,’’ and the UN now operates without the presence of a UN peacekeeping or political mission.
All UN activities are under-pinned by The Universal Declaration of Human Rights. The charter was adopted in 1948, after World War Two. Full details are here: http://www.un.org/en/universal-declaration-human-rights/
