UNDP with the generous support from Japan, has concluded the graduation of the second cohort of journalist in Timor-Leste. #SDG16 Supporting democracy
Training conducted by the Press Council
Twenty-three Journalists and University Students including 11 females graduated today through the paticipation in four months long Comprehensive Journalism Training Phase II covering 224 hours of intensive capacity enhancement exercise. The journalists were felicitated by the Ambassador of Japan- Mr. Hiroshi Minami, President of Press Council- Mr. Virgilio Guterres and Resident Representative of UNDP- Mr. Claudio Providas. They acknowledged the critical role the media plays in a democratic society and should be prepared to overcome many challenges with transparent and impartial reporting. This second phase of journalism was conducted through 28 modules like data journalism, project newsroom, developing stories, interview techniques, language standardization, gender sensitive reporting, photo journalism and many others. The project with Press Council intends to continue the training at the Municipal Level in 2019. The training programme has been jointly organised by Press Council and UNDP Electoral Project with the kind support of people and Government of Japan.
