Celebrations of the 20th Anniversary of the Referendum (Popular Consultation) and of the INTERFET Mission

On the 30th August 1999 Timor-Leste voted in a national referendum which ultimately led to the arrival of INTERFET to restore peace and stability, and then independence being declared in May 2002.

The Government of Timor-Leste has a series of events planned to mark this important occasion. http://timor-leste.gov.tl/?p=22339&lang=en&n=1
