Assessing the level of progress of implementation of human rights obligations by Timor-Leste
As a member of the United Nations, Timor-Leste has a role to engage with the various UN Human Rights Mechanisms.
As it has ratified seven of the nine core UN human rights treaties, Timor-Leste is required to report on a regular basis to the treaty bodies – Commitees set up under each treaty to monitor implementation of the treaty.
The table attached gives an overview of all past, current and upcoming reviews of the human rights situation in Timor-Leste since 2015.
It has links to the observations and recommendations by three key mechanisms and processes (the Treaty Bodies, the Universal Periodic Review and the Special Procedures of the Human Rights Council).
The links also include reports submitted by the Government of Timor-Leste, civil society, the Provedoria and the UN for the various reviews.
